Wasps & Hornets

Wasp & Hornet Control in Missouri City

A wasp nest by the door is a real hazard, especially for kids or anyone allergic. Where it is hidden decides how we get to it.

Wasps around the door, or a nest you cannot reach? Paper wasps hang combs under the eaves, and yellowjackets nest in the ground and in walls and turn mean by late summer. We clear the nest and treat the spot so it is not rebuilt. If it turns out to be honey bees, those are handled differently, not killed, so we check first.

Know what is nesting

Paper wasps hang open combs under eaves and rails. Yellowjackets nest in the ground, wall voids and attics and turn aggressive in late summer. Hornets build large enclosed nests. Each nest location changes how it is reached and removed, and a nest near a door or a child's play area is a real stinging hazard.

Honey bees are different

Honey bees are beneficial pollinators and are not treated as a pest to exterminate. If what you have is a honey bee colony rather than wasps, that calls for live removal, so we identify the insect before doing anything.

Questions

Wasp and hornet questions

Can you get a nest inside a wall or the ground?
Yes. Yellowjackets in particular nest in wall voids and in the ground, which is why knocking down a visible nest often does not solve it. We treat the actual nest site so it is not just rebuilt a few feet away.
What if it turns out to be honey bees?
Honey bees are beneficial and are not exterminated as a pest. If we identify a honey bee colony rather than wasps or hornets, that is handled as a live removal, which is why identifying the insect comes first.
Is a wasp nest by the door worth a call?
Yes, especially for kids, pets and anyone allergic. A nest at a doorway, grill or play area is a stinging hazard, and yellowjackets get more aggressive as summer goes on. It is safer to have it removed than to fight it yourself.
